Long-Term Care Pharmacy Automation Solutions
TCGRx has developed the industry’s most flexible and reliable solutions so you can continue delivering first-rate customer service while also growing your business. With products like ATP® 2, InspectRx®, and Beacon®, we offer tools and complete systems that allow you to fill more prescriptions with less space, labor and inventory. By making small adjustments in the software and hardware, TCGRx systems can address the various needs of your patients.
Long-Term Care Facility Benefits
No two facilities are the same, but each is hampered with time consuming repetitive tasks. TCGRx offers medication adherence packaging solutions to help facilities with these repetitive tasks allowing the staff to spend more time with the patients. With unit dose and multi-med pouch packaging, cart conversions, and dispensing boxes, your pharmacy can offer long-term care facilities the tools needed to improve the overall workflow medication administration in the facility.
Changes from blister/bingo cards to pouch are substantial
- Reduces the risk of nurses dispensing the wrong medication
The packages are clearly labeled to make it easy to identify and accurately administer medication against the Medication Administration Record (MAR).
Easy-to-read package labeling
For the more independent patients at your facility, our easy-to-read adherence packaging is flexible and allows the font to be as large or small as needed for self-administration.
Our solutions fit into modified carts with cart conversion kits, available by the cart manufacturer. TCGRx helps streamline the distribution process at the long-term care facility, and the pouches fit into many existing carts.
Blister cards are time-consuming
Blister cards are difficult to maintain, store, sort, and dispense. There is medication waste, and blister cards make it difficult for residents to have away time from the facility due to the complexity of the medication regimen. Multi-med packaging enhances resident safety with optional barcoding for facilities with bedside scanning. This will reduce medication administration time by the staff, and medications can be organized by resident, pass time or wing, and each is clearly labeled with medications, administration time and dosage in an easy-to-tear pouch.
5. Pair multi-med packaging with multi-med / unit dose boxes
By storing pouches in boxes helps to provide an organized way to distribute medication to the patient floor in long-term care environments, and fits into many existing medication carts for dispensing, without the need for a cart conversion kit.
6. Adherence packaging costs less than traditional blister cards
When dealing with long-term care facilities, the pharmacy absorbs the cost of the packaging the medications that go to the residents of the facility. Pouch packaging not only guarantees patient safety, but it can also reduce pharmacy consumable costs up to 90%.
How to identify the needs of your long-term care pharmacy
Each pharmacy is different and has its own unique needs. We have the most experienced team in the industry for pharmacy consulting and design. Our flexible equipment allows us to integrate TCGRx’s automation into your pharmacy’s current space. Our talented staff of designers and engineers work with you to determine your needs and analyze your workflow to define the appropriate products for your long-term care pharmacy.
1. The process starts with a consultation from our sales team.
Your local Sales Director can visit your pharmacy to see your current workflow and discuss any issues you may be facing, and also offer additional solutions to areas that could use improvement. In many instances, a simple change in your workflow processes, with the addition of pharmacy automation, can vastly improve pharmacy function, labor and efficiency.
Reasons to Utilize Pouch Packaging Instead of Blister Cards
Pouch packaging guarantees medications are being administered as prescribed.
Blister cards are time consuming to fill and check. Pouch packaging is automated, and accurate.
Short-cycle dispensing pouch packaging reduces the amount of medication waste. Blister cards are dispensed in 30-day supplies, where pouch packaging can be dispensed in 2-2-3, 7-day, 14-day, 28-day or 30-day supplies.
2. TCGRx workflow engineer brought on to the project*
Depending on the size of the space and complexity of the project, our workflow engineer may visit the pharmacy to reevaluate the workflow if integrating new pharmacy automation, or suggest inventory management solutions to help with any wasted space.
3. TCGRx will provide you with a quote
It is a quick process for TCGRx to identify your retail pharmacy needs. Depending on budget, your retail pharmacy can buy a piece of equipment now and another piece next year. You may see that things have improved in your workflow, but you may also find things that still need to be improved upon and TCGRx can reevaluate your retail pharmacy astime progresses. One of the best aspects of working with TCGRx is that everything is mobile and on wheels so it can be moved around if your design changes at a later date.
4. Provide Marketing Materials to Long-Term Care Pharmacy Staff.
TCGRx can provide your pharmacy with marketing materials to take to the long-term care facilities you serve, explaining the methods that are available to improve their current medication administration processes. We provide you with the tools necessary to educate your facilities about converting from blister cards to pouch packaging.
